The emergence of the UAE as a global tourist and business destination in addition to its strategic location between Europe, the Middle East and Africa, on the one hand, and the Far East, Central Asia and Oceania, on the other, has made the UAE one of the world’s busiest air transportation hubs for both passengers and cargo. The UAE responded to the increasing demand on air transport by building world-class international airports which together connect the country in direct flights to more than 180 cities around the world. Today, more than 100 airlines, including two award-winning national airlines and a third locally based, fly more than 50 million passengers through or into and out of the UAE.

So, travellers to the Emirate of Abu Dhabi are assured of comfortable flights and easy connections from wherever they board around the world. While the emirate is well served internally by two international airports covering all major destinations, the proximity of international airports in other emirates ensures easy access to Abu Dhabi from destinations not covered by the emirate’s two airports. Travelling by land to Abu Dhabi from airports in other emirates is only a 90-minute to two-hours-and-half trip.

Beside being among the safest in the world, UAE international airports provide business and leisure travellers with all modern facilities and high quality round-the-clock services and traveller assistance to ensure an enjoyable experience, whether telecommunication and Internet services, car rentals, banking services, restaurants and coffee shops, storage services or five-star accommodation.

The biggest attraction that awaits travellers are the award-winning duty-free shopping facilities which have become renowned for their luxury, variety and reasonable prices.

Etihad Airways is the National Airline of the United Arab Emirates. The airline was set up by a Royal decree in July 2003, with Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, as its hub. Etihad started commercial operations in November 2003.
