You will find all major car rental companies in Abu Dhabi, plus a few extra, and it’s worth remembering that the larger, more reputable firms generally have more reliable vehicles and a greater capacity to help in an emergency. All services are provided inclusive of registration, maintenance, replacement, 24-hour assistance and insurance. For short term rental, many companies offer daily rates – there are booths at the airport and most of the major hotels, and there are numerous shops dotted throughout the city.

To hire any vehicle you will need:

• Passport copy.
• Credit card.
• Valid driving licence from your home country or a valid international driving licence.

*If you have a residence visa, you will need to have a valid UAE driving licence.

Keep in mind, the city has a round-the-clock paid parking system. At premium parking lots, which are on main streets, vehicles can park for up to four hours at AED 3 (approx US $ 1) per hour. In standard spaces, the rate is AED 2 per hour for a maximum of 24 hours. Drivers who park outside the designated spaces; indicated by turquoise and white or blue and black markings, can be fined from AED 200 – AED 1000 (US $ 54 – 273).
