Every community in Abu Dhabi has a mosque where Muslims, led by an imam, come to pray. The mosques’ minarets are fitted with loudspeakers that announce the call to prayer five times a day.
Indeed a trip to Abu Dhabi without visiting this religious and state landmark is incomplete, as the mosque embodies both religious and architectural feat. A 7,119 square-metre Persian carpet, probably the biggest in the world, adorns the prayer hall of the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan mosque. Stunning and exquisite chandeliers also hang from the Mosque's majestic ceiling, which add to its impeccable beauty.
Abu Dhabi is tolerant of other religions as evidenced by the allocation of specific places of worship for several religious denominations, where followers are free to perform their religious duties and obligations.
Since Friday is the holy day for Islam, most non-Muslim congregations also hold their main mass or worship services on Fridays.
