For a glimpse into Emirati traditions, look no further than the Heritage Village on the Corniche Breakwater. Slip back into the past in this oasis-style village complete with a ‘souk’, camels, craftsmen working on Jewellery and copper goods and relish the changes as you take in the modern skyline over the water.
The Women’s Handicraft Centre is also a gateway to Abu Dhabi's history and cultural heritage giving visitors an insight into traditional handicrafts. Here local women sell their traditional perfumes, pottery, national dress and foods products.
Al Bateen Shipyard is on the western coast of Al Bateen, close to the Corniche and the oldest inhabited area of the city. Here visitors can learn of the ancient traditions, still practiced today, which have forged the traditional ‘dhow’ sailing boat, one of the sturdiest vessels afloat. Marvel at how these hardy vessels are built, often without blueprints, and with construction owing more to the precision of the eye than to any modern-day equipment.
